Giant deadline splash: San Francisco trades for Kris Bryant (report)

This is not a drill. You wanted a splash, you got one.

According to Jeff Passan, Farhan Zaidi and the San Francisco Giants have traded for All-Star infielder Kris Bryant just minutes before Friday’s trade deadline.

In exchange for Bryant, it appears the Cubs will receive Alexander Canario and Caleb Killian from the Giants.

Canario, the Giants’ ninth overall prospect, is an outfielder with a plus arm and the best bat speed of any San Francisco prospect not named Marco Luciano.

Kilian is prospect no. 30 for San Francisco, currently playing in Richmond. The 6’4″ Texas Tech product projects as an end-of-the-rotation starter.

Bryant has been an All-Star in four of his seven Major League seasons, including this year. He was batting .267 for the Cubs before being dealt, slugging .358 to go along with 18 bombs and 51 RBI.

With the Dodgers landing Max Sherzer and Trea Turner from the Nationals, it appears the Giants felt the need to match their sworn NL West enemies and add some firepower as we start to approach the home stretch.
