The Giants seem to be running out of players who can hit left-handed pitching.
Right-handed batter Mauricio Dubon was struggling so mightily at the plate he was recently sent down to Triple-A. Alex Dickerson and LaMonte Wade Jr. both have trouble hitting lefties, the latter of which is 0-for-24 against them in his career.
Wilmer Flores, who hits lefties better than almost anyone on the Giants, seems to be on his last leg with a hamstring that is severely affecting his movement. Evan Longoria, a lefty killer, remains on the IL.
So is it time for the Giants to make a move at the deadline? Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle says the Farhan Zaidi would probably like to, but also pointed out why it’s probably unlikely.
“I mean I think he would like to,” Slusser told Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks. “I’m sure he’s looking at it, if that’s going to be a price tag thing and then a match with where he could put him. Especially knowing that you are going to get Longoria back, they hope they are getting Belt back. You know, what’s the spot?
“LaStella should be coming back. Do you get someone that’s another utility player? Are you going to wind up with another utility player that’s better than (Wilmer) Flores? I don’t know.”
Slusser then gave details on how long it’s going to be until Flores is right again.
You’re right he’s playing on a hamstring that is not 100 percent. We’ve asked (Gabe) Kapler about it and he said ‘We’ve basically just told him don’t do anything flat out. Don’t spring full speed. Don’t operate full speed. He’s probably not going to be okay until the All-Star break.”
