The NBA offseason has already begun. With the Warriors having secured the 7th and 14th picks in the upcoming NBA Draft and last season revealing how dire the roster is without Klay Thompson, changes obviously need to be made. Thompson, even if he becomes the same player he once was, it likely won’t be immediate.
Golden State’s trio of Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are all over the age of 30 and need help sooner rather than later. It’s unclear if that can come from a 20-year-old James Wiseman, or either of the two draft picks the Warriors are now slated to have.
According to Stephen A. Smith, one player in consideration is Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons, who flamed out of the playoffs in embarrassing fashion, simply refusing to shoot the ball, especially in crucial, late-game situations.
“I believe the Golden State Warriors are going to make a push for Ben Simmons,” Smith said. “I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but calls have already been made. Things are percolating.”
It’s unclear what sort of role Simmons would fill on a Warriors team that struggled offensively and was dominant defensively last year, but there are months and months to see how the situation plays out.
