Stephen Curry will not be heading to the Olympics, and it appears he may never do so. This year’s upcoming Olympic games in Japan provided what is likely the last viable opportunity for Curry to participate. He declined to participate in 2016 due to maintenance and injury concerns on his knee and ankle.
According to Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Curry has decided not to head to Japan for the 2021 Olympics.
Warriors star Stephen Curry has opted against playing for Team USA in the Tokyo Olympics this summer, sources tell me and @anthonyVslater. Curry had been deciding on participating over the last few weeks, and USAB expected him to be out of the available pool.

His Warriors teammate, Draymond Green, though, has committed to play in the Olympics, along with Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard and a host of other All-Star caliber players. Curry joins Donovan Mitchell, who plans to rehab his ankle, as some of the high-profile players to decline.

Despite never playing in the Olympics, Curry has been very successful with Team USA. He is a one-time silver medalist at the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship and a three-time gold medalist, at the 2007 Global Games, the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2014 FIBA World Cup. The next chance Curry will have to participate in the Olympics would be when he’s 36, which would seem exceedingly unlikely.
