Richard Sherman’s time with the 49ers was supposed to be over. It sounds like the door has cracked back open.

Both Sherman and the 49ers brass have not ruled out a reunion over the last two days, as Sherman remains on the free agent market with seemingly limited suitors. Sherman told Stephen A. Smith that his market isn’t likely to present itself until after the draft, when teams who didn’t fill the necessary holes in their secondary may look to him as a cheap option.

Sherman said that a return to San Francisco “isn’t out of the cards,” but that he hasn’t been in contact with them. He has spoken to the Seahawks, Raiders and Saints.

The next day, John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan were asked about the possibility of signing Sherman and said that they would not rule out the possibility.

Sherman, 33, played just five games last season while dealing with calf issues, but made the All-Pro team with the 49ers the season before. The 49ers drafted just one cornerback, adding Ambry Thomas out of Michigan in the third round.
