It’s silly season, folks. We’re now just four days away from the NFL Draft, at which point everyone can take a deep breath, or ratchet up their anxiety tenfold, depending on what the 49ers decide to do and how you view the pick. Sitting at No. 3, with a quarterback the definite pick, there are three clear prospects on the board for San Francisco: Justin Fields, Trey Lance and Mac Jones.
As we get into these final days, it’s a near certainty that more and more reports will begin to come in, trying to discern exactly what Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch and co. are thinking with the selection.
And according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 49ers are down to just two of their prospects; Lance and Jones.
As the #49ers close in on their decision of which QB to take at No. 3, sources say they are down to two prospects — and the belief is those two are #Bama QB Mac Jones and #NDSU QB Trey Lance. Several sources say the focus does appear to have shifted to those two.

That would mean, if true, that Fields is out of the picture. It is, however, couched with a last sentence that reads, “several sources say the focus does appear to have shifted to those two.”
That’s likely just Rapoport protecting himself in case a change of mind happens, but it is in line with all the unknowns throughout this process. No one has really had a bead on exactly what the 49ers are doing, and while Rapoport’s reliability likely means Fields is out of the picture, it’s not a 100 percent cut-and-dry statement.
