With just over a week to go in the draft, there’s still time to fill out some of the holes on the 49ers’ roster. There was clearly space open in the running back room, with only Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., JaMycal Hasty and Austin Walter on the roster. Mostert and Wilson Jr. became the two-headed starting duo for San Francisco last season, but both have dealt with myriad injuries.
The 49ers officially announced on Wednesday that they added depth with Wayne Gallman, formerly of the Giants, on a one-year deal.
Gallman, 26, is a former 2017 fourth-round pick who became the team’s starter after Saquon Barkley’s season-ending ACL tear at the start of the season. He was heavily used in the Giants offense, starting in 10 of the 15 games he played. He was efficient with his opportunity, finishing with 682 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns on 147 carries. He also caught 21 passes for 114 yards.
