As the 49ers work through these last few weeks before the NFL Draft, they’ll have a chance to see the two guys not named Mac Jones at least one more time, each. Justin Fields will host a second Pro Day on Wednesday, and Trey Lance will hold one next week.
The NFL has banned private workouts this year, but the 49ers are out to make the workouts as personalized as possible. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network both Fields and Lance will incorporate drills into their workouts that Kyle Shanahan uses with the 49ers.
Make of that what you will, but it’s a crafty move by the 49ers to work around some of the COVID-19-related restrictions that are in place this year as they seek to finalize who their quarterback of the future is.
Mac Jones has already held both of his workouts, so if you’re a believer in recency bias, then both of the workouts would seem to bode well for Fields and Lance.
