If you were wondering what happened to Marquise Goodwin, you’re not alone. Goodwin was traded last season from the 49ers along with pick 210 to the Philadelphia Eagles for pick 190, which San Francisco used to draft tight end Charlie Woerner.
Due to COVID-19, NFL players were allowed to voluntarily opt out of the 2020 season, and Goodwin was one of those players. He opted out due to the birth of his first child, Marae, after his wife, Morgan, had suffered two prior miscarriages, explaining his decision in the post below.

Because Goodwin opted out, his contract, like Travis Benjamin’s of the 49ers, was delayed a year and scheduled to affect the cap in 2021. He was expected to remain on the Eagles and have that contract take effect this season. Not quite.
In perhaps the oddest transaction in recent memory, Goodwin has reverted to the 49ers from the Eagles due to a clause in the contract, and according to multiple reports, the 49ers will lose their seventh-round draft pick as a result, the 238th overall. In effect, the 49ers ended up trading the 210th pick in last year’s draft and 238th pick in this year’s draft for Woerner, who was pick 190 in last year’s draft.
From the #49ers: Because Goodwin has reverted back to the team, the 49ers must send their original seventh-round pick in the upcoming draft to the Eagles. The 49ers' total number of picks now drops to nine. https://t.co/5bX4WnSgiO

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the 49ers are not likely to retain Goodwin.
While they lost a pick, the 49ers do, however, still have a seventh-rounder and nine overall picks. They acquired the Jets’ seventh-round pick, the 230th overall, in the Jordan Willis trade, which gave the Jets the 49ers’ 2022 sixth-round pick.
