The 49ers are looking at more than 40 players whose contracts expire and become free agents this offseason. Among the top names are Trent Williams, Kyle Juszczyk, Jaquiski Tartt, Richard Sherman, Jason Verrett and K’Waun Williams.
One of the high-tier but not highest-tier free agents is Kendrick Bourne, who could be heading elsewhere, but prefers to stay in Santa Clara. Bourne has been a prolific third-down receiver and first down machine. He projects as a mid-tier free agent who could be looking at something like a three-year deal in the range of $12-to-$18 million.
Bourne told Cam Inman of the Mercury News that he’s had discussions with the 49ers about returning and that his priority is winning a Super Bowl.
I just had a cool chat with #49ers' Kendrick Bourne:
*He says 49ers talking about new deal
*If he hits free agency, several suitors run similar scheme
*His Super Bowl choice: Brady's Bucs, "because Mahomes took my ring"
*Promoting @nflplay60 for kidshttps://t.co/kkKzxaQ2eM— Cam Inman (@CamInman) February 3, 2021
“I love the Niners, though, and they’re still in the conversation with me,” Bourne said. “They’ve told me they want me back, so that’s definitely still an option. They’ve got me as a good priority, I feel. They show a lot interest and are trying to get something done. I’m not their top priority, but they appreciate everything I’ve done the last few years. It’s a good relationship and the building is awesome.”
