The Warriors have a Steph Curry ankle scare

The Warriors are mostly exhaling. But that last bit of soothing air has not been blown out just yet.

“He did tweak it. He told me it’s not serious,” Steve Kerr said of Stephen Curry’s left ankle.

“Curry” and “ankle” in the same sentence should give any Warriors fan pause, injuries to both ankles nearly preventing him from being the superstar he has become. During Wednesday’s 108-101 loss to the Clippers at Chase Center, Curry’s wayward shot was the only alarming aspect until late in the fourth, when he appeared to roll his ankle after stepping on Patrick Beverley’s foot.

While both of Curry’s ankle surgeries came on his right, he has banged up his left countless times. He was able to run up the court with a grimace but was quickly subbed out of a game that the Warriors had lost touch of.

Golden State will again host the Clippers on Friday, and Kerr wasn’t going to make any proclamations just yet about Curry’s status. Still, they do not seem overly concerned that the injury could linger.

“He’ll come in tomorrow and get treatment,” the coach said over Zoom. “We’ll check it out, but the good news is Steph does not think it’s anything too serious.”

Curry shot 5-of-17 for a season-low 13 points — after averaging 46 per game in his previous two contests. He’s allowed an off night. Before their rematch with the Clippers, his teammates don’t seem worried.

“Three-zero probably won’t have 13 points again,” Kent Bazemore said.
