Daryl Morey can’t stay out of the spotlight, even when he doesn’t do anything.

At least that’s what the former Rockets general manager claims after being fined $50,000 by the NBA on Monday, for a Dec. 20 tweet from his account that celebrated the one-year anniversary of James Harden breaking the Rockets’ franchise assist record. Morey deleted the tweet immediately, and says it was posted by an automated app. Based on screenshots of the tweet, it certainly looks like that was the case.

Morey is now the general manger of the Philadelphia 76ers, and the tweet violated the league’s anti-tampering rule. Morey reportedly has mutual interest in reuniting with Harden, who has made it clear he wants out of Houston as soon as possible.

Rockets CEO Tad Brown responded to Morey’s tweet before it was deleted with raised eyebrows and hand rubbing the chin emojis.
