It’s been nearly four years since Colin Kaepernick played in an NFL game. His contract with the San Francisco 49ers ended after the 2016 season, and no team has signed him since then.
The NFL has been accused of blackballing Kaepernick from the league, and settled a lawsuit with Kaepernick and safety Eric Reid reportedly for less than $10 million regarding grievances with the league. Since then, Kaepernick has remained in shape and says he still wants an NFL job. He had one bizarre, impromptu workout session organized by the league in a discernible PR move last year, in which the league would have kept ownership of the workout footage.
He has spent a great deal of time working with his charity organization, the Know Your Rights Camp, which works to educate and empower Black and Brown communities. Per the organization’s website:
“Our mission is to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass-mobilization and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of change leaders.”
On Thursday, Ben and Jerry’s announced a partnership with Kaepernick to create a new, “Change the Whirled” flavor which will be released in 2021. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Know Your Rights Camp.
I’ve teamed up with @BenAndJerrys to serve up joy on the journey to justice!
Today, we're excited to introduce Change the Whirled, a new non-dairy flavor that hits shelves in early-2021!
