The last time Richard Sherman played for the San Francisco 49ers, there was still hope for the season. It was Week 1, during a 24-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in which a hapless attempt at a game-winning drive in an empty stadium set the tone for this all-too-bizarre 2020 campaign.
Sherman’s calf injury, the details of which we are without, nagged him to the point it necessitated an injection to reduce swelling. But after 11 weeks, Sherman is back, and he’s joined by a much-appreciated trio in Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and two fellow IR activations in Raheem Mostert (ankle sprain) and Jeff Wilson Jr. (ankle sprain).
Also activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list are Arik Armstead, Trent Williams, Javon Kinlaw, Hroniss Grasu and Joe Walker.
Brandon Aiyuk, Daniel Helm, Jordan Willis and D.J. Jones remain on the list.
The six players who are not active for Sunday are again led by a now third-straight healthy scratch for Ahkello Witherspoon, who is clearly going to have to find a new place to play next year.
Inactives:
CB Ahkello Witherspoon
OL Tom Compton (concussion sustained in walkthroughs)
CB K’Waun WIlliams (high ankle sprain)
RB Tevin Coleman (knee sprain)
LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring)
