Chris Paul has reportedly been traded for the fourth time in his career, and the second time in as many seasons.
Paul, 35, is headed to the upstart Phoenix Suns according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. In exchange, the Oklahoma City Thunder get Ricky Rubio, Kelly Oubre, Ty Jerome, Jalen Lecque and draft compensation.
Paul joins a Suns team that was one of the hottest in the bubble, just missing the playoffs. Paul will be paired with Devin Booker, one of the best young scoring guards in basketball, making the Suns an almost certain playoff contender.
There’s an interesting wrinkle related to the Warriors in this deal, if you believe that the Thunder are looking to continue to shed salary. Both Kelly Oubre and Ricky Rubio would fit into Golden State’s $17.2 million trade exception, one they must use in the next seven days.
Both the Oubre and Rubio contracts fit into the Warriors’ trade exception. Gotta think a rebuilding team like the Thunder looking to shed salary are a perfect partner for the Warriors. https://t.co/6QLy1HnLo6
