Mike Nolan is feeling the heat, and not just because his defense is ranked dead last in the NFL.
Nolan, the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator and former 49ers head coach (2005-2008), accidentally got Tabasco sauce in his eye during his Monday Zoom session with reporters. Nolan itched his eye with a finger that had Tabasco on it, and the burning was so bad he had to briefly stop the news conference while answering a question about the effectiveness of pass-rusher DeMarcus Lawrence.
“He’s been active every week as far as, I think, disrupting the quarterback. He’s escaped several times to do that,” Nolan said. “Obviously, the frustration for him as well is — look, it’s when he misses them. Whoop, excuse me. I’ve got something in my eye. Just had some Tabasco on my finger, and it went in my eye. That wasn’t good. Ugh. Terrible, geez. I’m sorry.”
It’s yet another painful moment in what has been a painful season for Nolan, whose defense has allowed a league-leading 243 points.
Nolan was eventually able to return to the presser after cleaning out his eye
“My eye feels a lot better,” he said, “but it was burning.”
