Controversial MLB umpire Angel Hernandez has been assigned to the upcoming Dodgers-Padres NLDS series, amidst an ongoing lawsuit he filed against MLB alleging racial discrimination.
Hernandez, who was born in Cuba, claims that he hasn’t been assigned to a World Series since 2005 and hadn’t been promoted to lead a crew. Hernandez says that this is due to racial discrimination by MLB, rather than a decision based on performance. Hernandez, who is famously short tempered, had three calls at first base overturned in a Red Sox-Yankees ALDS game in 2018.
The case is ongoing in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.
Lance Barrett will work the plate for Tuesday’s Dodgers-Padres NLDS opener in Arlington, Texas, joined by Hernandez (first), Miller (second), Doug Eddings (third), Alfonso Marquez (left) and Quinn Wolcott (right).
