One of the greatest KNBR hosts of all time passed away on Monday. Ralph “The Razor” Barbieri died in Novato after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 74.
Barbieri’s longtime co-host Tom Tolbert heard the news immediately before starting his 2 PM show on Monday afternoon, and along with cohosts Rod Brooks and Larry Krueger, shared some thoughts about the man he shared a studio with for 15 years.
“He was one of a kind, man,” Tolbert said. “He was special. Him and (Gary) Radnich basically built this station. Those were the two guys, the two mainstays, the two pillars that got this thing going. He was fiercely loyal, loved his family, loved (his son) Tayte, loved me, I loved him. It was just so much fun.”
