When an All-Pro tackle requests a trade and is willing to sit out a full season to get his wish, that departure is never going to be seamless. Especially not when there is bad blood among all interested parties. For a trade of Trent Williams to Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers to happen with the Daniel Snyder’s Redskins, it’s going to be an uneasy affair.
Williams joined Papa and Lund on Thursday, and acknowledged just how stressful that process was.
“It was a little nerve-wracking,” Williams said. “I knew I wanted to be here, I knew their interest was the same, but obviously the x-factor was working with the Redskins and trying to find a package that everyone could agree on and move forward with. So I was extremely, extremely nervous. There were a couple teams in the mix, too, so just a lot of uncertainty in that little bit of time just not knowing exactly where you’d end up.”
“Yeah, obviously seeing the injuries that not just Joe, but a few other guys along the front and just having me becoming available, there was a point that I did think that that could become a possibility,” Williams said. “Obviously I was chomping at the bit just like I am now, even more last year because it was still fresh and I had battled what I had battled and just got back to full health and I was ready to go.”
