The 49ers had a very eventful day one of the NFL Draft. Expect day two to be the opposite.
After acquiring a fourth round pick in the trade back for Javon Kinlaw, the 49ers packaged the pick in a trade up to acquire wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. That leaves the 49ers with three picks left, one in the fifth, sixth and seventh round.
Might Lynch and Shanahan look to make a move to acquire someone on day two? It doesn’t sound like it.
“I think we’ve probably exhausted most of that,” Lynch told Mark Willard and Larry Krueger on KNBR Thursday. “I think our plan is to reassess things in the morning. We’ve got that fifth round pick, that sixth and the seventh left. One thing that I’m proud of our group since we’ve been here — and I think it speaks to the way we work together in personnel and coaching — is that we’ve had a good hit rate on our later round draft picks.”
In addition to being confident in what they can get on day three, Lynch also said that the strength of the 49ers roster decreases the incentive to stockpile young players.
“So there’s three picks left in my mind. This thing is far from over, and we’ve got to make sure those count. As Kyle said it’s going to be a tough roster to crack, we’ve picked up one pick when we made that move with Tampa, then we saw an opportunity to go up and get a player, which speaks to how much we like Aiyuk.
“We used all that capital and I’m glad we did.”
