The latest face of the coronavirus pandemic is Jacqueline Towns.

The mother of Karl-Anthony Towns died from complications of COVID-19 on Monday, the Timberwolves announced, after battling the virus for more than a month. She was 59.

“Jackie was many things to many people — a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend,” a Towns family spokesman said in a statement released by the team. “The matriarch of the Towns family, she was an incredible source of strength; a fiery, caring and extremely loving person, who touched everyone she met. Her passion was palpable and her energy will never be replaced.”

Karl-Anthony Towns, an All-Star center, announced nearly three weeks ago his mother had slipped into a coma while fighting the pandemic that has claimed more than 22,000 American lives. The New Jersey native was trying to raise awareness and underscore just how serious the threat is, which the country has since seen.

A couple Warriors were quick to send their love and support the Towns’ way.
