Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the 49ers were among multiple teams, including the New Orleans Saints, who interviewed quarterback prospect Mason Fine out of North Texas. Fine is shown working out with Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who he is compared to, and described as a “absolute baller,” but undersized.

Brees works with trainer Todd Durkin, who before the coronavirus pandemic limited gym access and caused state and local stay-at-home orders, was also training Fine. Again, like Brees, there is upside and production, but he’s not even 5’10” and doesn’t possess the rushing threat of a quarterback like Kyler Murray, who can make up for some of his deficiencies in the height department by providing dynamism as a runner.
Here are his measurables:
Height: 5’9 3/4″
Weight: 189 pounds
Hands: 8 7/8″
Arms: 29″
Wingspan: 70 5/8″W
Best season (junior year): 303-of-469 (64.9 completion percentage), 27 TD, 5 INT
Fine is projected to go undrafted, so the risk is almost nonexistent. He would be a priority free agent with high upside and little downside. Fine was also invited to the East-West Shrine Bowl, where, despite only 6 attempts, he went 4-of-6 with 1 TD on this 36-yard flea flicker, and 66 total yards passing for a game-leading 143.1 passer rating.
