Well, it’s pretty unanimous: The basketball world at large wants to see Stephen Curry play again. In whatever forum possible.
Though he hasn’t played since breaking his hand Oct. 30, in just his fourth game of the season, Curry is fourth among Western Conference guards in All-Star voting, according to results the NBA released Thursday. Curry (191,149) trails just Dallas’ Luka Doncic (1,073,957), Houston’s James Harden (749,080) and Portland’s Damian Lillard (202,498).
D’Angelo Russell, a reigning Eastern Conference All-Star, is making another bid this year, coming in at sixth at 122,499.
For Curry, regardless of the fan vote, this will snap a streak of six-straight All-Star nods. The Warriors will update the public on his status next month, but he’s not expected back until March.
Russell is the only true Golden State contender for the Feb. 16 event at United Center in Chicago. No other Warrior appeared on the top-10 vote-getter list for his position. Russell, in 22 games and 31.4 minutes per, is averaging 23.2 points and six assists this season. He’s shooting 43 percent from the field and 36 percent from deep.
The All-Star starters will be announced on Jan. 23. The reserves will be announced a week later, on Jan. 30.
