The wait is over.
Jaylin Davis will be a major leaguer and a Giant, the outfielder getting called up before Wednesday’s game in St. Louis. He didn’t quite make his debut Sept. 1, but he didn’t have to wait long.
Davis has fascinated the Giants and their fans since coming over from Minnesota in the Sam Dyson trade, destroying opposing pitchers for Triple-A Sacramento (with the requisite PCL asterisk). He hit 10 home runs in 27 games, and the corner outfielder will finally get his chance to prove he can do it on the big-league level, too.
One of the obstacles for the Giants has been their overflowing outfield, with Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater a nice platoon in right, Kevin Pillar in center and Alex Dickerson (along with Brandon Belt) in left. Dickerson seemed to grimace after striking out in an at-bat Tuesday.
Another obstacle has been that Davis wasn’t on the 40-man roster. The Giants solved that one by moving Reyes Moronta to the 60-day IL.
