A team that has lost touch with the wild-card race has at least become interesting again.
Jaylin Davis was called up Wednesday after tearing up Triple-A Sacramento competition and inserted into the lineup right away, batting seventh and playing right field. Mike Yastrzemski moved to left field and Alex Dickerson — a day after he lunged at an outside pitch and grimaced as he swung — was on the bench against St. Louis righty Michael Wacha.
Also getting a day off were Mauricio Dubon and Donovan Solano, righties sitting in place of Corban Joseph, who was set to make his first start with the Giants since they picked him up Tuesday off waivers from Oakland. Just like Davis, Joseph had destroyed PCL pitching but went just 7-of-37 (.189) with the A’s before they waived him.
Joseph is one of four lefty bats in the lineup, mixing righties and lefties throughout apart from Kevin Pillar and Davis, both righties, at 6 and 7.
Here’s the full lineup:
1. Mike Yastrzemski, LF
2. Buster Posey, C
3. Brandon Belt, 1B
4. Evan Longoria, 3B
5. Brandon Crawford, SS
