PHILADELPHIA — The Giants hope Alex Dickerson will not be the biggest loss of trade-deadline day.
San Francisco scratched the left fielder shortly before Wednesday’s 5-1 victory over the Phillies when Dickerson felt “something in his side,” manager Bruce Bochy said. The 29-year-old with a history of back troubles, which have resurfaced recently, was sent for an MRI. Bochy said they didn’t have results yet.
“I think it’s possible,” Bochy said, asked if Dickerson’s ailment could require a roster move. “And we’ll see what the results show and see where we’re at.”
Dickerson has started two games since July 21. Last week, he said he was not worried about an oblique issue that had been bothering him because it was on the opposite side from where he had back surgery in 2017.
Dereck Rodriguez will start Thursday as the Giants push Shaun Anderson back a day. Anderson, who struggled throughout July, will get the opener in Colorado on Friday.
Also activated for Wednesday’s games were Jandel Gustave and Andrew Suarez, as the Giants scramble to replace the bullpen options they dealt away.
