On June 13th the Toronto Raptors, lead by Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, took down the Golden State Warriors 114-110 to win the NBA Championship. With Kevin Durant returning to the lineup after a month of being away only to re-injure his leg in Game 5, and Klay Thompson tearing his ACL in the 3rd quarter of Game 6, this year’s NBA Finals had its fair share of dramatic moments.
This is the first time the Raptors franchise has brought a championship back to Canada. It also is the first time since 2016 that the Warriors are not hosting a parade in Oakland. That being said, it didn’t prevent Golden State from giving their opponents a classy gesture.
On Monday morning, the day of the Raptors’ championship parade, the Warriors took out a full-page in the Toronto Star to congratulate the champions. The page read:
“The Golden State Warriors congratulate the Toronto Raptors on their historic achievement and bringing the 2019 NBA Championship to the city of Toronto.”
Under the note is a picture of Steph Curry giving Toronto Raptors guard, Kyle Lowry, a hug.
