Draymond Green says he doesn’t have any problem with Drake on the sideline

TORONTO – Rap legend Lil Wayne once said that “Athletes wanna be rappers, rappers want to be athletes.” This may not be true on the whole, but it might be playing out in some fashion during this year’s NBA Finals.

Thursday night the Raptors held serve and won maybe the biggest game in franchise history after they beat the Warriors in Game 1 of The Finals. A lot of the talk following the game surrounded what happened on the court but a major storyline surrounded what Raptors superfan Drake was doing from his courtside seat during and after the game.

From jawing with Draymond Green between Warrior free throws to picking lint off Stephen Curry’s head (and later posting it on Ebay) Drake was affecting the game much more than a regular fan usually can.

And that’s ok with Draymond Green. Because Drake is not a regular fan.

“I think so many people make a big deal out of it. It is what it is,” Draymond Green said during a media session Friday morning. “He a fan. He talk. And it gets more attention because he’s Drake. So many people are complaining about it like, ‘You don’t let any other fan do that.’ Yeah any other fan just not Drake. So they probably shouldn’t be able to do that. That’s just kind of how the cookie crumble.”

This isn’t the first time a celebrity has interacted with athletes on the floor. New York native and Oscar-winning director Spike Lee famously had an interaction with Reggie Miller in the 1994 playoffs when his beloved Knicks played the Pacers. Much like Lee did, Green said Friday that because Drake has worked so hard to be where he is that allows him to get more rope.

“He worked to be who he is,” Green said. “He should get more leash. I don’t mind it. It’s fun for me.”
