On a getaway day for San Francisco, the team snuck away with a 3-1 victory to avoid a sweep in Miami, and snap a brutal seven-game losing streak.

Brandon Crawford looked like the extra base hit machine that fans have learned to love. He catapulted the Giants offense in back-to-back innings with two doubles that both lead to runs. In the seventh inning he lead off with a double and later advanced to third on a Kevin Pillar fly ball. Mike Yastrzemski followed Pillar with an RBI single. In the eighth, after Posey, Belt, and Longoria all reached base, it was Crawford again coming up clutch with a two-run ground rule double to right center. However, the shortstop wasn’t the only Giant who had a good day.

In his fourth appearance and second start of the season, Tyler Beede went six innings allowing five hits with only one earned run. This was the first time this season he pitched more than 2 and 1/3 innings. It seemed his stuff was still working, but manger Bruce Bochy turned to the bullpen in the seventh; allowing Moronta, Watson, and Smith to close out the ballgame. This was Beede’s most impressive start as a member of the Giants.

Here are three takeaways from todays’ 3-1 victory:

Crawford gives Giants much needed offensive boost

As stated above, Crawford had a strong day at the plate Thursday. He finished 2-for-4 with two doubles in back-to-back innings. He opened the seventh with a leadoff double that two batters later resulted in Mike Yastrzemski’s first career RBI. The Giants’ shortstop wasn’t don’t there.

In the following inning, with a 1-0 count, Crawford ripped a ground rule double over the right field fence. This gave the Giants a three run lead that the bullpen would hold onto.

Beede has best performance of his career

The young right-hander looked sharp in his second start of the season. He pitched through six innings while allowing five hits and only one earned run. During the bottom of the fifth inning, Giants announcer Dave Flemming said that he thought this was the most comfortable Beede has looked in his major league career. That is a statement the young pitcher would probably agree with.

In the bottom of the second, Marlins shortstop Miguel Rojas doubled to left. After intentionally walking the eight hitter, Miami pitcher Sandy Alcantara would single in Rojas. This would be the only inning Beede allowed more than one runner on base. He proceeded to cruise through six.

Beede also got his first major league base hit with a single in the top of the third. In his post-game press conference, Bruce Bochy said that  Beede earned another start when they travel to New York early next week.

Giants get much needed win

San Francisco entered Thursday’s game having lost seven in a row and nine of their last twelve. The seven-game skid was the longest losing streak the Giants have had in the 2019 campaign. Over those seven games, the team was outscored 63-19. Luckily, Crawford and Beede both had strong performances to avoid the sweep, and end the Giants’ seven-game losing streak.

The Giants opened their road trip losing the series 1-2 to the Miami Marlins. The team will look to build off Thursday’s win as they travel to Baltimore to start a three game weekend series with the Orioles Friday. Friday’s game will be on ESPN+ and first pitch is at 4 o’clock. As always you can listen to the game on KNBR 680 and stream it live on KNBR.com.
