Belt gives update on knee injury

SAN FRANCISCO – Friday night Brandon Belt left the game in the eighth inning after his knee became inflamed.

In the top of the eighth the San Francisco Giants were desperate for some run support to make up for their then 4-0 deficit. Belt stepped up to lead off the inning and grounded out to shortstop Jose Iglesias. While running through the bag he started to limp.

Belt exited the field afterwards but did not return. Pablo Sandoval would take over at first base.

After the game Belt gave an update about his injury.

“It usually gets me every now and then sliding into bases, I jam it pretty good. Doesn’t typically bother me while I’m running but just bothered me while I was running tonight. Just a bit of inflammation in there and we’ll take care of it,” Belt said.

This knee injury has cropped up before and is the same knee that Belt has previously had two surgeries on. However, Belt didn’t seem alarmed and said he would even try to play tomorrow.

Manager Bruce Bochy also made light of Belt exiting the game, however the team intends to do their due diligence.

“He will get an MRI. We just want to see if there’s anything going on. We don’t think there is but it’s the normal thing to do,” Bochy said.
