The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed OL Wesley Johnson to a one-year deal and waived TE Marcus Lucas.

Johnson (6-5, 309) was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round (173rd overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. Throughout his five years with the Steelers (2014), New York Jets (2014-17) and Miami Dolphins (2018), he appeared in 51 games (24 starts) along the offensive line. In 2018, he signed with the Detroit Lions on March 29, 2018 and was later released by the team on September 1, 2018. He then signed with the Dolphins on October 3, 2018 and appeared in 10 games.

A 28-year-old native of Nashville, TN, Johnson attended Vanderbilt University where he started 51 games along the offensive line. As a senior in 2013, he started all 13 games at left tackle and earned Second-Team All-SEC honors.

Lucas (6-4, 250) originally joined the 49ers after signing to the team’s practice squad on December 11, 2018 where he spent the remainder of the season. He later signed a Reserve/Future contract with San Francisco on January 2, 2019.
