Judgement day is coming.
For the young men hoping to be drafted to the NFL, that is. Thursday night the first round of the draft will take place, with the 49ers of San Francisco holding the rights to the second pick in the draft.
Most mock drafts and pundits have the Arizona Cardinals selecting Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray with the first pick, which would allow the 49ers to take Nick Bosa – the player who many believe is the best defender in the draft – second overall.
That chatter has apparently made it’s way to Bosa.
In an interview with ESPN’s Kevin Van Valkenburg the defensive lineman said he deleted a batch of tweets in the weeks leading up to the draft. Those tweeted reportedly included criticisms of Colin Kaepernick and support of Donald Trump. Why did he delete the tweets?
“I had to,” Bosa told Valkenburg. “There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco.”
Monday afternoon John Lynch met with reporters to talk about the draft, and Matt Barrows of the Athletic asked Lynch about Bosa’s social media activity.
“Just in general I would tell you that we look at everything,” Lynch told reporters as you can see in the video shot by frequent KNBR contributor Matt Maiocco. “We try to be as thorough in the process as we can. That is something we look at. But we also look at what kind of teammate is he? What do his teammates think about him? And when I say ‘him’ I’m speaking of any prospect.
“In particular when you’re talking about guys who are going to go that high, you’ve vetted these guys in every way. You try to look at things like that. What kind of member of the organization would this guy be in every respect? You look at it all. And we’ve done that with all the prospects we might be considering at that spot.”
Lynch went on to say that after talking to players and coaches around the Ohio State program he thinks Bosa is a great teammate, but wouldn’t say much more about Bosa.
