SAN FRANCISCO – The hitless drought in this young season for Giants outfielder Connor Joe is finally over.
Down 3-2 against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays, Joe recorded his first hit of the season, providing the catalyst for an offensive outburst in their half of the fifth inning.
After second baseman Joe Panik drew a walk, Joe lifted a bloop single over Rays shortstop Brandon Lowe’s head, which floated safely into shallow left field. A few pitches later, outfielder Steven Duggar drove both Panik and Joe in with an RBI double into right field, regaining a close lead for San Francisco.

But the Giants weren’t done; in the next at-bat on a 2-1 count, first baseman Brandon Belt opened the floodgates.
Belt whaled on a sinker, hammering it into left-center field. Rays outfielder Tommy Pham looked to make a play on it, but the ball kept carrying over the wall, giving the Giants a commanding 6-3 lead in the fifth inning.
