SAN FRANCISCO — You can expect Bruce Bochy to receive the royal treatment from Major League Baseball cities across the nation in his victory lap around the league, but San Francisco started off the proceedings in style.
When the Giants manager made his way out to the field before Opening Day for the final time in his career San Francisco fans gave him a huge ovation.
An ovation that just kept going. And going. And going.
Fans at the park stood and cheered for well over a minute before KNBR’s Jon Miller continued with the pregame festivities.
The ovation was to be expected. Bochy will retire as one of the most beloved and decorated figures in franchise history. It will be interesting to see how the rest of baseball celebrates one of it’s greatest managers.
Bochy also threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Bruce Bochy was given the honor of throwing the first pitch (an honor he’s earned by every right) here at #OpeningDay for the #SFGIants.
