Warriors ‘highly unlikely’ to match Cavs’ offer sheet for McCaw [report]

The Warriors are ‘highly unlikely’ to match the Cleveland Cavaliers offer sheet to Patrick McCaw worth $6 million over the next two years, according to Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. McCaw signed the offer sheet on Friday morning, and the Warriors have until Jan. 7 to either match it or let McCaw join the Cavs. The Cavs offer for McCaw is non-guaranteed.

Previous reports have indicated Golden State’s desire to match, but doing so could cost the Warriors as much as $14 million this year due to luxury tax payments. Signing McCaw would also fill the 15th spot on the Warriors roster with DeMarcus Cousins nearing a return.

McCaw never reported to training camp during the offseason, apparently holding out in the hopes that another team would offer him more than the Warriors’ $1.7 million qualifying offer, and Golden State’s subsequent two-year deal worth 5.2 million. McCaw continued the holdout once the regular season started, and even went “dark” according to teammates who had trouble contacting him.

McCaw averaged four points and 1.4 rebounds while shooting under 30 percent from three in his two seasons with Golden State.
