SANTA CLARA — Richard Sherman made no secrets what Sunday’s win meant to him. After the Seahawks released him in March, and they won their first matchup of the season against the 49ers two weeks ago, Sherman and his new team got their revenge, beating their arch-rivals, 26-23, in overtime Sunday.

“Honestly, it means a lot beating Seattle, for me,” Sherman said postgame. “It’s just the way the guys showed up and kept battling throughout the game.”

The 49ers snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Seahawks, while preventing them from clinching a playoff birth.

After the game, the 49ers locker room swarmed Sherman, and he was awarded the game ball.

“Guys, we know the obvious game ball today,” Kyle Shanahan said. “(Sherman) has done an awesome job for us, and we are so pumped to have him on our side. I know this means a lot to him. Let’s give one to Sherm.”

Sherman replied: “I really appreciate it, man. It has been a long season for all of us. We battled today. Today wasn’t about the season. It wasn’t about the record. Y’all battled for one another, ya’ll battled for me, y’all battled for Saleh. We wanted this win bad, bro, and I appreciate all you guys that did it for us.”
