Less than two weeks ago, Brewers reliever Josh Hader had a number of racist, homophobic, and sexist tweets from when he was in high school resurface, leading to an uproar from the media and baseball fans alike. Hader apologized immediately, claiming he’s changed as a person, but that didn’t stop the fans at AT&T Park from letting Hader know what they thought of him, treating the reliever to a chorus of boos in his first road appearance since the incident.

But Hader isn’t the only one. On Sunday, not long after nearly pitching a no-hitter, second-year Braves starter Sean Newcome had offensive tweets of his own resurface, leading to a public apology and his enrollment in sensitivity training.

Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow joined Paul McCaffrey and Ryan Covay on Monday morning and was asked about this troubling trend. Krukow didn’t mince words in his assessment.

“I don’t know if anyone’s accepted either one of the apologies,” Krukow said of Hader and Newcome’s teammates. “All that tells me is that these guys are a couple of morons. I think it’s even worse for Newcomb because, okay, you watched Josh Hader and what he went through, and if you know in the back of your mind you’ve got tweets that go back to your younger days, go erase them.

“The fact that those things got out, to me is ridiculous. It’s such a lesson. Things that you say, and I don’t care what age you are, they come back and they are a reflection of you, no matter what you say what type of person you’ve evolved into, they are a reflection of you. I shake my head.

“The whole concept of Twitter is just too dangerous for a lot of people that just aren’t smart enough to deal with it. These guys kind of have made their bed and they’re trying to swim through this huge mistake. There’s a reason why they don’t let 18-year-olds drink or make adult choices, or get tried as a juveniles, because they are juveniles. It’s an unfortunate thing, but if there’s anybody else out there who has said something stupid, go back and erase your tweets.”
