Recent call up Chase d’Arnaud wasted no time making a statement in his first ever leadoff at-bat, smacking a 0-2 breaking ball over the left field fence for his firsthome run in a Giants uniform.

The momentum continued for the Giants in the first inning, with San Francisco putting up four runs against Chicago starter Mike Montgomery the opening frame. Gorkys Hernandez doubled to deep right scoring Andrew McCutchen and Brandon Crawford. Steven Duggar then singled to center scoring Hernandez.

Wednesday is d’Arnaud’s fourth ever appearance as a member of the Giants after being called up on July 7, and his second start as a member of the orange and black. D’Arnaud signed a minor-league contract with the Giants in January of this year. The utility man made his MLB debut in 2011, and has spent time with the Pirates, Phillies, Braves, Red Sox, and Padres.
