Giants reliever Hunter Strickland did not mince words when examining his performance Monday night. Strickland blew a two-run lead against the Marlins in the Giants first home game after a 10-game road trip. He relinquished three earned runs and two walks that caused the Giants to drop to three games below .500.
“We can’t have that, that’s unacceptable,” Strickland said. “(Andy) Suarez went out there and did a heck of a job. Sammy (Dyson) came out there and picked him up and obviously, I let it down. I didn’t do my job.”
This marks Strickland’s fourth blown save of the season and his second in his last three games, although his last blown save, also against the Marlins, came from an unearned run.
“I was probably rushing a little bit I guess,” Strickland said. “Nothing seemed to be right and working for me. It just sucked in general.”
As Strickland left the mound, he exchanged words with Marlins’ center fielder Lewis Brinson at third base, who drove in the game-tying run after being brushed off the plate by Strickland, who said he didn’t know what was said between the two.
“I was just in a moment and was not very happy with myself,” Strickland said.
Strickland said he’ll look to film to avoid similar outings.
“That’s part of our job, we have to (shake it off),” Strickland said. Obviously, I’m not thrilled right now. I’ll go watch video and figure out what I’ve got to do to get better and go from there.”
