SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco Giants have had some beef with umpires this week, and some choice comments may have landed Brandon Belt in a spot of trouble.
Wednesday and Thursday night the Giants found themselves defending calls they did not agree with. Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, and Bruce Bochy all expressed their displeasure to the umpire at one point. Thursday night Bochy and Crawford were even ejected in the bottom of the 12th inning arguing a called third strike.
When asked what actions the Giants might take to ease the tension between the club and the officials, Bochy said it wasn’t uncommon to talk to Joe Torre or Ed Montague.
“You address it with whoever you think is the best person to talk to,” said Bochy. “For me I may get a call from Joe but I think we gotta put it behind us. I don’t want us thinking about this.”

Following another frustrating call earlier in the week, Brandon Belt expressed his frustrations in the clubhouse after Wednesday’s game. His comments earned him a call from MLB’s chief baseball officer Joe Torre.
“I’ve heard that guy multiple times say or insinuate that he’s trying to get through the game fast,” said Belt Wednesday night. “And then he makes calls like that that I can’t imagine that he really thought was a strike. You’ve got to wonder.”

When asked if there would be a fine or any sort of punishment Bochy didn’t seem to think anything would happen past Torre and Belt’s discussion. However, Bochy was eager to move on from these moments and said bad calls happen for both teams.
“It’s frustrating with whats happened the last couple games,” said Bochy “They’re going to make some mistakes just like we’re going to make some you just hope it balances out.”
Belt will be sitting out in Friday nights game with a swollen knee he aggravated from a slide to second Wednesday night.
