Giants second baseman Alen Hanson looked like he tweaked something after scoring from first base on a ripping double by Austin Jackson in the eighth inning of Saturday night’s 6-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was enough for manager Bruce Bochy to replace Hanson with Kelby Tomlinson on defense in the bottom half of the inning.
After the game, Bochy told reporters that Hanson had a tight left hamstring and was considered day-to-day. He also said he did not anticipate a roster move.
Apparently, the issue is more serious than Bochy anticipated, as Hanson was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday afternoon, with the club calling up Austin Slater to take his spot on the 25-man roster.
Giants put Alen Hanson on the DL and recalled Austin Slater, who is basically the backup infielder.

Slater, 25, is primarily a left-fielder, but has played second base in the minors in the past. At the plate, Slater has dominated at Triple-A Sacramento so far this season, posting an exceptional slash line of .386/.456/.670 in 88 at-bats.
Still the loss of Hansen is a tough blow for the Giants. The second-baseman has been stellar in place of the injured Joe Panik, posting a .298/.346/.638 slash line, while hitting four home runs since his call up on April 28.
