SAN FRANCISCO – After a scorching hot start in Triple-A Sacramento, Austin Slater was called up by the San Francisco Giants on Friday afternoon. He will replace Josh Osich on the roster, who hit the disabled list with a hip strain.

“We are placing Osich on the disabled list,” Bruce Bochy said before Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. “He has a right hip strain. It got worse when he pitched in his last outing two days ago. Replacing him today will be Slater.”

In 14 games at Triple-A Sacramento, Slater batted .358 with a .435 OBP; boasting a home run with two doubles and a triple.

As for Osich, his ERA spiked to 8.10 after 10 innings of work this season, which included a blown save. In his last appearance, Osich surrendered four runs to the Washington Nationals over 1.2 innings on April 25.

Although Gorkys Hernandez will start against the Los Angeles Dodgers in left field, Bochy said Slater will see some action at some point on Friday night.

“He’s been swinging the bat well, him at Mac both,” Bochy said. “They’ve really been doing a nice job down there with the bats. I’ll use him off the bench tonight.”

With their upcoming doubleheader with the Dodgers on Saturday, Bochy hinted that Derek Law could rejoin the team, saying, “tomorrow with the doubleheader, we can add a player, so it could be him.”
