SAN DIEGO — Buster Posey hasn’t missed a game so far this season, but Bruce Bochy plans to keep him in the dugout after his catcher’s right thumb began to swell.

“His thumb is a little sore,” Bochy said. “I think he could use a day. He’s got some swelling in there.
“He’s fine. He’ll be fine for Tuesday,” Bochy added. “He could just use a day today. Originally, he was going to catch, but I had to adjust it a little bit.”
Despite going 1-for-12 over three games in San Diego, Posey is batting .313 with two home runs and three doubles on the year. He’s started all but one game this season.
According to Bochy, there’s little reason to be concerned about Posey’s thumb. It shouldn’t keep him from starting the Giants’ next game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, April 17.
Rather, his decision was an attempt to keep Posey’s minor injury from becoming a major problem.
“In the past, we’ve had to do this a couple times,” Bochy said. “Give him a day and he’s fine. If we let it go, then it gets to the point where he needs more time. We’re just going to give him the day off and he’ll be ready to go on Tuesday.”
