Among the question marks that the Giants have worked to erase this offseason, one of them that will not be answered until the start of the season is how their new additions — Evan Longoria, Andrew McCutchen, and Austin Jackson — will fit into their clubhouse, especially considering two of them were the faces of their franchises last year.
Although the true test will come after Opening Day on March 29, so far those three players haven’t given the Giants, or broadcaster Mike Krukow, any reason to doubt their ability to fit into San Francisco’s clubhouse.
“The best part about this guy is that he’s genuine,” Krukow said about McCutchen on Murph & Mac Tuesday morning. “There’s no b.s. about him. He gets it. I think when you get a player like him, he’s going to go and find the vibe. He’s going to be the guy that sees what the vibe is in that clubhouse and go right to it and he’s going to go add to it. Longoria is the same kind of guy. Austin Jackson, same kind of guy.”
Those are the kind of qualities the Giants need this season as they strive to redeem themselves after losing 98 games last season.
“You have substance players, who you don’t have to worry about,” Krukow said. “They’ll find the vibe, plug in, and add to it. There are other guys that you have to be aware of everyday. They might be moody. There might be guys that you just steer clear of and are a little speed bump in the clubhouse. There are no speed bumps in that clubhouse.”
