The Warriors drafted Marco Belinelli with the 18th overall pick in the 2007 draft. Eleven years later, it looks like a reunion could soon be in store.
Golden State is interested in signing the veteran guard according to a report from Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. Belinelli, 31, was bought out by the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.
Belinelli, the 2014 three-point shootout champion, would give the Warriors some much needed shooting off the bench. With Andre Iguodala currently shooting 23.4 percent from deep and Patrick McCaw shooting 24.6 percent, adding a reinforcement in that area would make the Warriors feel that much better heading into the postseason. The Warriors are currently dead last in the NBA in made three pointers off the bench (2.1 per game).
Belinelli is a career 37.7 percent 3-point shooter, and is shooting slightly below that (37.2) this season. In 52 games with the Hawks this year, Belinelli is averaging 11.4 points per game in 23 minutes per contest. He’s likely the best deep shooter available on the open market.
