The Golden State Warriors officially updated Stephen Curry status on Tuesday, saying that the two-time MVP has “continued to make good progress overall” as he recovers from a right ankle sprain sustained on Dec. 4, and that he will be re-evaluated on Friday after missing 10 games with the injury.
On Thursday, head coach Steve Kerr gave an early update on Curry’s status, telling reporters that it is unlikely the point guard will return for Friday’s game against the Hornets, but that he is likely to return on Saturday, when Golden State hosts the Memphis Grizzlies at Oracle Arena.
“I doubt he’ll play tomorrow,” Kerr told reporters on Thursday. “With a back-to-back I don’t think it makes much sense. He’s probably going to want to, but I would say it’s more likely that he plays Saturday. If all goes well I expect him to play Saturday. Even if it goes well I would not expect him to play tomorrow.”

The Warriors have looked far less fluid on the offensive end in Curry’s absence, but have gone 9-1 with him on the bench thanks in large part to stingy defense, and excellent two-way play by Kevin Durant. When Curry returns, the Warriors will be back to full strength after a stretch that saw multiple key players miss time, as Golden State sits atop the NBA with both the league’s best record (28-7) and point differential (+10.3).
