The San Francisco Giants don’t currently have an everyday third baseman on their roster. It’s one of a few areas the Giants must address this offseason if they hope to climb back to relevance after a 98-loss campaign in 2017.
On Wednesday evening, we discovered one third base standout that the Giants are apparently targeting, with Dan Clark reporting that San Francisco is among a group of teams with an offer on the table for the Orioles’ Manny Machado.
Several offers are on the table for Manny Machado – Cardinals, White Sox, Yankees, Phillies and Giants. #Orioles

Even more interesting is what the Giants were reportedly willing to give up for the three-time All-Star. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, San Francisco was willing to exchange their third baseman of the future as part of the trade package.
The San Francisco Giants offered third baseman Christian Arroyo as part of a package, but the teams could not find a match, sources said.
Even if you believe Arroyo has to potential to be great, it’s hard to argue that he wouldn’t be worth giving up for Machado, who at just 25 years old is one of the most complete third baseman in Major League Baseball. It’s possible that the Orioles were interested in a different Giants prospect, as Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area has reported that teams have asked about Giants top prospect Heliot Ramos in trade discussions.
Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic has called Machado to the Giants a long shot.
Giants GM Bobby Evans is keeping his cards up about whether club made a trade offer for Orioles’ Manny Machado, as was reported last night. It’s a longshot in any event.

Machado is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2019.
