A key player in the Golden State Warriors’ rise to the top of the NBA has decided to call it quits.
Former Warriors’ forward and two-time NBA All-Star David Lee announced his retirement via Instagram on Sunday afternoon, bringing an end to a career that began back in 2005 and included five seasons with Golden State.
Lee broke the franchise’s epic All-Star drought, as his selection to the 2013 All-Star game helped him become the first Warriors’ player to make an appearance in the game since Latrell Sprewell did so back in 1997. Lee was also a member of the Warriors’ championship team in 2014-2015, as the forward averaged 7.9 points per game for a Golden State squad that won 67 games in head coach Steve Kerr’s first season.
Lee averaged 13.5 points per game over the course of his career, but averaged at least 16 points per game in four of his five seasons with the Warriors.
The University of Florida product also played for the Knicks, Spurs, Celtics and Mavericks.
