Shea: Giants would ‘absolutely not’ include Brandon Crawford in any trades

With the offseason fully underway, trade rumors are spreading faster than Hunter Pence cruising down the Embarcadero on his scooter. Although Brandon Crawford’s name has been floated as a potential trade piece, the San Francisco Chronicle’s John Shea silenced these rumors on Gary & Larry Wednesday afternoon.

“Absolutely not because he’s got full no-trade and he’s from the Bay Area and likes it there and his family is there,” Shea said. “He went to UCLA, he’s a California kid, he’s not going to want to go anywhere else.”

Crawford grew up roughly 50 miles away from Candlestick Park in Pleasanton, California. As a child, Crawford was one of the countless Giants fans begging then National League President Bill White not to relocate the team to Tampa Bay.

Although Crawford left Northern California to attend UCLA, the Giants brought him back to the Bay Area when they drafted him in the fourth round of the 2008 MLB Draft.

In 2015, Crawford signed a $75 million, six-year contract that included a full no-trade clause, meaning he can veto any potential trade he is a part of. Catcher Buster Posey has the same right and both are due to become free agents in 2022.

And if that isn’t enough to convince you that Crawford will be a Giant in 2018, maybe Bobby Evans can.

“As the season wound down, I think it was either Sabean, Baer, or Evans or all three of them, they pointed to those three guys as untradeables,” Shea said. “When I asked the question to Evans in the wake of 98 losses and a few weeks to think about it, ‘are those three still your untradeables?’ He said, ‘yeah.’ And that included Crawford.”
