Any rumors about trading left tackle Joe Staley should immediately stop and never be revived. Two weeks after breaking his eye socket against the Eagles, Staley is completely off the injury report and will assume his traditional spot Sunday against the woeful Giants.
Replacement Trent Brown, did an outstanding job protecting rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard’s blindside against Arizona, getting the fourth-best pass protection from profootballfocus.com, however, his replacement, Eric Magnuson at right tackle didn’t grade out well.
However that doesn’t mean the 49ers won’t be diminished against the Giants. Tight end George Kittle (ankle), linebacker Eijah Lee (knee), defensive end Aaron Lynch (calf), Trent Taylor (ribs) defensive end Solomon Thomas (knee), OL Darrell Williams Jr. (not injury related) and OLB Pita Taunoepenu (not injury related) are all inactive.
Cornerback K’Waun Williams will be active after coming back from quadriceps and will likely assume his role as the slot cornerback against the Giants.
The player 49ers’ fans are unlikely to see is quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. According to Kyle Shanahan, Garoppolo will only have 20 pass plays and 25 runs for this game and apparently will not be in any special packages. Shanahan said the game plan is different from last week, so Garoppolo had to learn new pass plays and runs for the Giants.
